Excursions in Cambodia: 'For the Smile of a Child' Project
Visiting the Stung Meanchey municipal dump is quite a challenging experience as hundreds of children are scavenging here in terrible conditions. However, some organisations such as PSE and CCF are doing a great job helping them towards a better life.
'For the Smile of a Child' Project
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
You may wish to visit the PSE project (Pour un Sourire d'un Enfant or For the Smile of a Child) which is about five kilometres from the city. Visiting the Stung Meanchey municipal dump is quite a challenging experience as hundreds of children are scavenging here in terrible conditions. However, some organisations such as PSE and CCF are doing a great job helping them towards a better life.
The visit will start at the dump mid-morning and will include a tour of their clean-up facilities for the children. We then go to the PSE centre nearby which offers several excellent vocational projects such as silk weaving and gardening before visiting the Lotus Blanc restaurant where you can eat lunch if you wish to. The restaurant offers another vocational training option to the children with the additional benefit of all the proceeds being donated directly to the PSE project.
