Animals move zoo in Myanmar: 26-03-2008

Animals move zoo in BurmaTravellers are not the only ones making their way to Naypyitaw in Burma as animals begin to arrive to take up residence in a new zoo.

The new zoo is home to about 200 animals that have been taken from the Yangon Zoo and there are at least two penguins that have made a trip from Thailand by means of a donation.

Thousands of people attended the launch of the Zoological Garden of Naypyitaw that has over 243 animals that are indigenous to Burma, as well as imported species.

Visitors making their way to the new capital to see the 24-hectare site can expect to see penguins, kangaroos and white tigers, the DPA reports.

Most of the animals have been taken from the country's old zoo in Yangon and travellers should avoid heading there in their search for animals as they have all moved out.
