James first got the taste for travel whilst studying Physics at Sheffield when he spent two months in Thailand before returning to complete his studies. After years of customer service experience in the hospitality industry between travels, James changed tracks to live and work in Canada for six months before exploring Mexico and the US. After returning to the UK James had to decide on a suitable career path. His passion for travel was soon rewarded with a career at Audley, where he has since travelled extensively through Thailand, Malaysia and Borneo. James is a keen sportsman, representing Audley in many disciplines as activities in the local community increase. Other major passions include food and a recent introduction to scuba diving, both making regular travel to Southeast Asia especially appealing!
Having grown up in Brunei Nick caught the travel bug early on in life. A gap year saw him travel through Thailand, Singapore and Borneo, before working in Australia and New Zealand. Throughout university Nick returned to Asia many times, and since leaving university a love of trekking has taken him to Nepal, Nicaragua and Guatemala. After this he learnt to dive in Honduras. Whilst working in financial recruitment the itchy feet returned, leading him to teach English at Shanghai University. After the chaos and excitement of Shanghai, Nick felt it was time to get a proper job, and returned to the UK where he joined Audley. Nick now puts his knowledge of other cultures and travel to good use talking to people about an area that he considers to be home from home.
Sarah started her travels in Europe which culminated with her settling in Greece for over two years where she became immersed in the culture and learnt to speak the language. Eventually she returned to the UK but maintained her passion for travel and in 2003 embarked on what was to be two and a half years of intensive travelling and working throughout Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. It was discovering the delights of other countries and their unique cultures that convinced Sarah to pursue a career in travel upon her return and use her knowledge and enthusiasm to inspire others. Sarah is also a keen landscape and travel photographer and is currently working on her first book.
Sid joined Audley Travel after seven years working in London. Over the last ten years he has travelled extensively, being consistently drawn back to Southeast Asia. He is always struck by the diverse scenery, friendly people and the mix of religions and tribal culture that have shaped this part of the world. Sid was attracted to Malaysia by the rich tribal influences in the country, the vast array of wildlife, stunning rainforest, the beaches and diving as well as an interest in the conservation issues affecting this region. His most recent trips to the region have taken Sid to the Philippines. He hugely enjoyed the variety on offer to the traveller across the archipelago and is keen to go back and explore more of the 7000 islands in the future.
Coming from an adventurous family, Vanessa began travelling at a young age and was always encouraged to explore overseas. After university she became involved in voluntary work and spent time in Central America and India. Her passion for scuba diving then lead her to Southeast Asia where she qualified as a Divemaster in Thailand. Further travels took her through Borneo and on to the Philippines where she settled for six months leading dives for a well known dive center on Cebu. Now back in England, she joined Audley in order to share her experiences with others and help them get as much out of their travels as she did. With Audley, she has re-visited Borneo and the Philippines and has also added Peninsular Malaysia and Papua New Guinea to her portfolio.
