Tailor-made Singapore: Introduction

Singapore has enjoyed a colourful history since its early days as a trading post and has grown into one of the greatest cities of Southeast Asia as well as being a hub for travel to many other destinations within the region and beyond.

There is evidence of its unique past, from British colonial rule to the Japanese occupation during Word War II and peoples from all across Asia live here side by side. There are futuristic skyscrapers here, but plenty more besides: a frenetic Chinatown, a scattering of quaint Victorian churches and some of the best restaurants imaginable. Often you can find all of these in close proximity: for example Boat Quay and Clarke Quay where old shop fronts and marvellous restaurants are set against a backdrop of high-rise offices and apartments.

Singapore has plenty of superb museums, a state-of-the-art zoo with special night safaris for spotting nocturnal species, and perfectly manicured tropical parks. For beaches, head across to Singapore’s playground island, Sentosa, or for an evening drink find your way to the elegant Long Bar at the Raffles Hotel, where the Singapore Sling was invented during the colonial era. The perfect introduction to Southeast Asia, Singapore has something for everyone.
