Qing Ming festival in Singapore: 04-04-2008

The ornately decorated Sri Mariamman Temple, SingaporeTravellers visiting Singapore this April should attend the Qing Ming Festival which is celebrated across the whole nation.

Taking place today (April 4th), the festival is celebrated in the temples throughout Singapore by believers who offer their prayers to remember those dear to them who have passed away.

While the event is a solemn occasion to remember loved ones, it is also a chance for families to come together.

They often make small feasts at the tombs of their ancestors which are likely to include fruit, teas and pastries.

Visitors are more than welcome to experience the event which is considered one of high importance on the country's cultural calendar.

It is also very versatile as celebrations take place all over the country but a great place to witness the occasion is the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Temple which houses one of Asia's largest Buddha statues.
