Philippines to get eco-friendly vehicles: 06-05-2008
The Philippine government has taken note of the world's environmental issues by backing plans for electric jeepneys and mini-buses in the city centre.
If you are travelling to the region you will be pleased to know that the efforts are being conducted to stem the threat of global warming without compromising public transport links.
Reports from the DPA stated that Greenpeace and the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) issued guides for "E-Jeepney".
This vehicle could carry you on your travels through the Philippines as well as being handy to local businessmen.
Athena Ballesteros, head of Green Renewable Independent Power Producer - the firm in charge of the project - welcomed the news.
"The DOTC's go signal also means that we can now proceed with scaling up E-Jeepney fleets in various host cities, giving the Philippines the opportunity to leapfrog into climate-friendly sustainable transport," she said.
