Historic town will host Vietnamese-Japanese cultural festival: 09-08-2007

Hoi An Town, a UNESCO world heritage site in Vietnam, will be holding the fifth annual Vietnam-Japan cultural exchange festival, which begins this Saturday August 11th.
The two-day festival, designed to promote Vietnamese-Japanese relations, is expected to be attended by around 15,000 tourists and local residents.
Events will begin with a kimono fashion show and a performance of traditional Bon dancing.
Further attractions include chado (a Japanese tea ceremony), mochitsuki (a Japanese rice-cake making ceremony), and demonstrations of origami and kanji calligraphy.
Cookery courses, a noodle-eating competition and tours of the ancient town of Hoi An also feature amongst the cultural highlights of the weekend.
The festival will also feature a number of seminars on environmental protection, which are designed to encourage sustainable development in the region.
The first Vietnam-Japan Cultural Exchange was held in Hoi An in 2003 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
