Medicinal orchid discovered in Vietnam18285597A rare orchid has been discovered in Vietnam, according to media reports.

Mathaba News Agency reports that forest rangers in the Quang Tri province of the east Asian country found the rare plant.

The orchid, named lan kim tuyen or Anoectochilus setuceus, was discovered in the Dakrong district.

According to the Red Book for Endangered Species, the rare violet-leafed plant is not commonly found anywhere in the world.

The discovery is particularly significant because it is known to have medicinal purposes.

It is believed that the orchid can be used to treat tracheitis, chronic hepatitis and help in cases of nervous breakdown.
