Vietnam celebrates anniversary of late leader: 07-09-2007

Solemnity and jubilation marked the celebration of National Day in Vietnam last weekend (September 2nd), according to Viet Nam News.
This year marked the 62nd anniversary of Vietnam's independence and was considered particularly auspicious because the date coincided with the death of the famous Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh in both the solar and lunar calendar.
To commemorate the event, thousands went to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to pay their respects to the leader's coffin. Meanwhile, a government official led a delegation to burn incense at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Ho Chi Minh City.
Additionally, the museum was given a number of relics by private collectors and companies. Some of these included documents written by Ho Chi Minh, famous works of art from Vietnamese painters and a wooden calligraphy reproduction of Vietnam's Declaration of Independence.
Ho Chi Minh was well known as the Vietnamese revolutionary who united the country before becoming first prime minister, then later president. The capital city of Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honour.
