Reasons To
Visit Indonesia

  • Volcanos

Heading up Krakatau is like trekking over Mars and as the guides tell you once you get half way: "No further or our boots melt". The basic nature of camping out on the island is outshone by the fact you will probably be the only people staying overnight and will be sleeping just metres from the ocean in the shadow of a volcano. A beautiful coral reef around one side of the island offers excellent snorkelling and the views over to the peak of the smoking Anak Krakatau are superb.

  • Beaches

The most obvious choice for a beach destination in Indonesia would be the island of Bali. Places like Seminyak, Sanur and Jimbiran are idyllic retreats.

  • History & culture

Indonesia is scattered with many temples and ancient monuments. Perhaps the most famous is the vast pyramidal structure of Borobudur, considered to be one of Southeast Asia’s greatest religious relics. Hundreds of Buddha images stare impassively out over the plains and the detailed galleries and terraces that lead up to its central stupa tell tales of ancient gods and battles.

  • Weather

There is never really a 'bad' time to go to Indonesia and the weather is good during the British summer months unlike many other Southeast Asian destinations. Even during the wet season, the rain won't dampen the enjoyment of your holiday as it falls in short downpours and it means that the scenery around you will be lush and colourful.

  • Wildlife

Indonesia is home to some incredible wildlife and the national parks in Kalimantan and Sumatra are some of the best places to see it. Trek through jungles, rivers and waterfalls on foot or by elephant to discover the wonders of nature from the orang-utan to the world's largest flower.

Cocotinos

Lombok

Cocotinos is set within an old coconut grove fronting over 300 meters of white-sand beach, part of which is a private cove.

Rolling hills flank the left and rear sides of the resort and on the right the existing road runs next to the sea, making it impossible for other hotels to be built adjacent so it therefore enjoys the advantage of being secluded for the present time and in the future.

The eco-friendly retreat is surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque views of the ocean and the islands. Styled after a traditional Indonesian village, the light and airy rooms are built with local materials in keeping with the green policy of the property.

Weathered stone, washed up corals and pebbles gathered up from the beach are used around the resort. Green stone hewed from large boulders in the nearby hills was used to tile the restaurant floor and swimming pool. Buluh Tui, a thin local bamboo traditionally used for fishing, was used for the verandahs.

The terrace rooms are rather small and overlook the gardens, while the garden rooms are slightly larger and again overlook the gardens. Our preferred choice are the garden rooms with ocean and pool view. They have a lush garden setting with full ocean and pool view, indoor and outdoor showers and private verandah. Alternatively, the large water's edge villas have a stunning view of the ocean.

Each villa features a king-size bed and large bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. Their most impressive feature is the wide verandah which accommodates an inviting plunge pool and timber deck that overlooks the beach and ocean; stone steps provide direct access to the beach. There are also a pair of two bedroom villas with private plunge pools.

The spa is ideal for a relaxing treat while the fresh water pool is situated on the beachfront looking on to the 'Gilis' and adjacent to it is the Ela-Ela restaurant and bar which serves local Lombok specialities and international cuisine.
