  • Sunset over the Mekong

There are few things in Southeast Asia that can beat a beer Lao as the sunsets over the Mekong - from the riverbanks in Luang Prabang to the 4000 islands, watching the world go by at sunset is a must.

  • The North

The northern part of Laos is a remote region that sees few tourists. Heading north from the Thai border towards China, the town of Luang Nam Tha is the gateway to the Nam Ha National Park, with countless opportunities to explore on foot, by kayak and on mountain bikes. A little further south you will stumble upon the picturesque area of Muang La and the dramatic valley of Nong Khiaw before arriving by road or boat at the cultural centre of Luang Prabang.

Hotel de la Paix

Luang Prabang

Conserving Luang Prabang's architectural heritage, Hotel de la Paix was converted from colonial buildings of the town's former prison and offers a contemporary and elegant addition to the luxury accommodation options in the town.

Parts of the original site have been carefully incorporated into distinctive features of the resort, such as the old corner watch towers now used to provide a location for private dining at sunset with panoramic views across Luang Prabang.

Each of the 23 luxury suites have unique design elements reflecting the style of the original buildings and four have private outdoor pools. The suites offer all modern amenities and comforts with large, soft-cushioned sofas and lounge chairs, luxurious bed linens, bathrooms with rain showers, feature bathtubs and a fireplace for the winter months.

All rooms host HD TV, DVD player, iPod and WiFi for your in-suite entertainment. The resort's gardens have been sympathetically landscaped to take into consideration all the existing trees and offer quiet areas for relaxation as well as two swimming pools.

Facilities include a restaurant and cocktail bar, library, spa and cooking school. The night market and a wealth of excellent local restaurants are only a gentle 15 minute stroll away.
