    The northern part of Laos is a remote region that sees few tourists. Heading north from the Thai border towards China, the town of Luang Nam Tha is the gateway to the Nam Ha National Park, with countless opportunities to explore on foot, by kayak and on mountain bikes. A little further south you will stumble upon the picturesque area of Muang La and the dramatic valley of Nong Khiaw before arriving by road or boat at the cultural centre of Luang Prabang.

The Kingfisher Eco Lodge is a family run property located just outside the village of Ban Khiatngong in Pathoumphone district.

The simple stilted wooden bungalows are furnished in Laotian style with traditional woven materials and have toilet and hot water shower powered by solar energy. Each of the bungalows has a spacious veranda with freestanding hammock and views out over the fields where elephants graze.

The lodge has a restaurant and bar and offers traditional Laos cuisine which can be eaten while looking out over the magnificent views of the countryside.

The owners of the eco lodge are working in close contact with the local villagers to help promote ecotourism in the area. Some of the activities available are elephant trekking, cycling in the beautiful surrounding countryside, and birdwatching; if you are lucky you may even spot a Kingfisher!
