You are here:
Wat Phou, Champasak, Laos
Champasak is a small town in Southern Laos, which was until thirty years ago a seat of royalty.
The main reason for coming here is to visit nearby Wat Phou, but it is charming place to spend a few days.
There are a few remaining colonial buildings in the town, one of which belonged to the last king of Champasak, and these sit on the main street alongside the more traditional wooden houses of the local Lao residents.
There are a few good local restaurants overlooking the river and some well run accommodation in the nearby area.
For those with a sweet tooth, the stall outside the ancient hotel in Luang Prabang sells delicious cakes which are perfect for an energy boost whilst sightseeing!
