  • The North

The northern part of Laos is a remote region that sees few tourists. Heading north from the Thai border towards China, the town of Luang Nam Tha is the gateway to the Nam Ha National Park, with countless opportunities to explore on foot, by kayak and on mountain bikes. A little further south you will stumble upon the picturesque area of Muang La and the dramatic valley of Nong Khiaw before arriving by road or boat at the cultural centre of Luang Prabang.

Excursions in Laos: 4000 Islands Tour

4000 Islands Tour

Champasak Province, Laos
  • Cruises, Sailing & Water
  • Culture & History

A private tour with your guide and driver around the 4000 Islands area, exploring this fascinating region by car and boat.

After an early morning breakfast, you head south by road and boat to Done Khone. Here you begin by re-tracing the French Colonial past at Ban Khone, where some old colonial houses still stand, and glimpse the first (and last) Lao railway with its own locomotive.

Continue your exploration of the area of the 4000 Islands leisurely by boat and visit the most beautiful Liphi waterfall, also known as the Samphamith, which forms a natural border between Lao and Cambodia.

Return to Ban Nakasang and drive to the famous waterfall of Khone Phapeng - the largest waterfall in South East Asia, also known as the 'Niagara of the east', though somewhat smaller than its namesake!

The whole day will give you a wonderful insight into this unique region and a chance to soak up the laid back atmosphere of this remote part of the world.
