Karawari Lodge
The Sepik River
Reached only by light aircraft using a nearby grass airstrip, Karawari Lodge overlooks a tributary of the Sepik and opens up a wonderfully remote part of the country.
Traditionally built from local materials, it consists of a main building in the style of a “haus tambaran”, or spirit house that contains a dining room, lounge and long bar overlooking the river: the perfect spot from which to watch parrots flying in to roost whilst the sun sets.
The 20 guest lodges are simply fitted out with ceiling fans, modern bathrooms and breezy verandas.
