Reasons To
Visit Papua New Guinea

  • Accommodation

Accommodation in Papua New Guinea is one of the highlights. Places like Ambua Lodge, Rondon Ridge and Karawari Lodge are unique in location and design and as long as you can survive without a few home comforts, you will love them. Service is not the most polished as the tourism industry is still in its infancy but the food is good and plentiful.

  • Birds of Paradise

Home to 38 (but still counting!) of the world's 43 species, these fascinating birds are known for their striking plumage, bizarre displays and mating rituals. Spotting one in the wild is a truly rewarding sight that very few people in the world are lucky enough to experience.

  • Diving

There are several dive spots in PNG that are regularly voted as some of the best in the world and the remote nature of these means sharing them with very few people! Large pelagics and pristine coral reefs are combined with warm clear waters - a fantastic combination for any diver.

  • Festivals

The sight of 50 giant men dancing in front of you with bright green dresses made from grass, yellow mud painted faces, Bird of Paradise headdresses, bamboo sticks through their noses and machetes in hand is indeed as surreal as it sounds but these are the kind of encounters you can expect on a trip through PNG at festival time!

    Festivals
  • Tribal encounters

Huli Clan, Mudmen, Baining people, Tolai men, Sepik tribe, the list is almost endless with virtually every area having their own language, customs and dress. This really is the major drawcard of the country and you will come back with the most amazing memories and hopefully some impressive photos!

Accommodation in Papua New Guinea: Tufi Dive Resort

The dive package includes boat, guide, tanks and weights, but rates do not include a chamber levy (approx US2.50 per day per diver) and landowner tax.

Activities, Sports & Relaxation

The resort, although primarily a dive resort, does cater for a whole range of additional activities for non-divers.

Swimming and snorkelling can be done from a small sandy beach about five minutes walk from the resort, or better beaches can be explored on organised fjord cruising, fishing and/or snorkelling tours. Canoeing and kayaking is also a great way to explore the fjords and see the magnificent waterfalls that cascade from the cliff tops.

For those who fancy a bit of land based exercise, enjoy a lengthy guided bushwalk to an adjoining fjord and take in the magnificent views of Cape Nelson or the peaks of Mount Trafalgar. Situated on the coast amongst pristine rainforest Tufi offers a wide variety of spectacular wildlife and keen naturalists can hope to see PNG's famous birds of paradise and the largest butterfly in the world, the Alexandra Bird Wing.

For a more cultural experience, the resort can also arrange village visits to meet with the local clansmen and enjoy their customary hospitality. Observe how the local people live off the land, growing their crops and using medicine derived from various plants and trees and even stay for a traditional lunch of fresh seafood, meat and local vegetables. For the more adventurous, it is also possible to stay overnight in a simple guesthouse for a real experience in a local village environment.
