Southeast Asia
A Deluxe twin cabin on the The Valentine Junk, Halong Bay, Vietnam
Travelling by river is the traditional means of transport in many areas of Southeast Asia and a great way to observe everyday life, wildlife and the scenery.
Notable river journeys include travelling aboard the Pandaw paddle steamers along the Irrawadddy River in Burma; the Mekong River between Vietnam and Cambodia, the River Kwai in Thailand, and the Rajang River in Malaysian Borneo.
There are also shorter overnight trips, generally on small vessels which navigate the rivers of Laos and Papua New Guinea while day trips explore the rivers of Malaysian Borneo and Kalimantan: generally you will have a private boat to yourself for most excursions.
