Day 4Bangkok - Khorat

Today you begin your journey into Isaan, the name given to the northeast region of Thailand. You will be driven northeast to Phimai Historical Park. A sensitive restoration project has meant that this is one of the country's best preserved Khmer temples. This majestic temple was built during the late 10th and early 11th centuries. You then continue on to the town of Khorat where you will spend the night.

Day 5Khorat - Surin

This morning you depart Khorat for the town of Surin, via the early Khmer ruins at Phanom Rung, the largest of Thailand's Khmer monuments and arguably the most impressive. From here you continue to Surin and your accommodation.

Day 6Surin - Khong Jiam

Today you depart Surin driving east to the Thai and Laos border, you will stop at Ban Tha Klang and the Elephant Study Centre. From here you continue on to your hotel at Khong Jiam overlooking the confluence of the Mekong and Mun Rivers.

Crossing the border into Laos today, you will be met by your Laos guide and taken to your riverside accommodation. Visit the beautiful temple of Wat Xieng Thong, one of 30 stunningly gilded temples in the town, as well as the Kuang Si waterfalls a short drive from the town. As dusk settles enjoy a sundowner on the banks of the Mekong and soak up the atmosphere of the night market with vendors selling a selection of well made handicrafts.

Day 12Luang Prabang

Simply breathtaking if not overwhelming, your guide will help you navigate its courtyards and chambers and make sense of one of the world's greatest man-made wonders.

Day 14Siem Reap

In the early morning visit Ta Prohm. By far the most atmospheric of all the ruins, it has been reclaimed by the jungle and is being crushed by massive tree roots. The rest of the morning is spent visiting the impressive fortified city of Angkor Thom. The most famous temple in this complex is the Bayon, with 216 enigmatic smiling faces. This is followed after lunch by an afternoon on the Tonle Sap visiting the floating villages.
