Day 1London
International flight from London to Bangkok with Thai Airlines.
On arrival you will be met and accompanied to your hotel which is on the Chao Praya river, right in the heart of the city.
With your guide you will explore Bangkok as the locals do - by all manner of public transport. Take the skytrain around the city as it winds its way through the skyscrapers and shopping malls, board the public taxi boat to Wat Po and the exquisite Grand Palace, hire a longtail boat to travel the network of backwater canals and enjoy a tuk tuk ride to the young and vibrant area of the Khao San Road. This is a really fun excursion and one that gives you a fantastic insight into the capital and the people that call Bangkok home.
Today your guide and driver will escort the family out to the ancient capital of Ayuthaya, now recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon you will enjoy a stroll round the Summer Palace at Bang Pa In. From there you will then visit a local handicraft village and sweet making factory.
You have a full day exploring Ayuthaya with your guide, we recommend jumping on a bicycle for the best access to the temples. In the afternoon head back to your hotel to enjoy a swim in the pool.
The morning is at leisure to relax or you could take out a bicycle. In the afternoon you will be taken back to Bangkok in time for the overnight train journey to Chiang Mai - the food served on board is surprisingly delicious and very traditional.
On arrival in the northern city of Chiang Mai you will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to your charming hotel within the old city walls. Once everyone has had a chance to unpack and freshen up you will then head out into the countryside to enjoy some elephant trekking to the hill tribe communities, followed by a gentle bamboo raft experience back to the city - fun for all the family!
A real highlight of the trip today as you get close to the birds and monkeys in their natural habitat as you take to the jungle canopy for a fun and safe zip wire adventure.
Fly direct to Phuket where you have five nights well earned rest on the beach at the charming resort of Khao Lak, a one hour drive north of Phuket airport.
Enjoy your free time in Khao Lak.
If your adventurous spirit is still running high, take a trip into the nearby Khao Sok National Park for more elephant riding, kayaking and jungle trekking.
