The journey to this lush and cool mountain retreat on the border with Burma is an experience in itself, passing through the rolling hills of northern Thailand.
With the help of the King of Thailand the area’s Black Lahu and Palong tribes are being persuaded to abandon the cultivation of opium in favour of growing strawberries and lychees, which thrive in the cool mountain air.
A visit to Doi Angkhang is an interesting diversion on a tour of the north and offers an insight into a part of the country little touched by the modern world.
