Chatuchak Weekend Market
Bangkok, Thailand
The best of the market is always to be found the further in you walk. A tip; do not stay on the perimeter but try and explore as much as you can. You will see more and more interesting things on sale the further you go into the centre.
To avoid getting lost, set up a meeting point before you go in; the large clock tower in the centre of the market is a great place.
Be careful with your belongings when walking around, as space is quite tight. If you have a bag on your back, we would recommend carrying it by hand. It is very safe, but it is always better to be cautious.
Taxi and tuk-tuk drivers may try to vastly overcharge you outside the market. If getting in a taxi ensure that they use the meter, and if getting a tuk-tuk, do not pay more than 100 Baht for the journey.
There are also two subway stations near to the market (Chatuchak Park and Kamphoeng Pet) The subway is only two years old and puts the London Underground to shame. It is ultra modern, and will get you to other areas of the city, such as Sukhumvit, or Bangkok's Hualumpong railway station.
