    Festivals in the Philippines are plentiful. Every town has a patron saint, and each of these has its own feast day and there are also bigger week long parties like Ati-Atihan in Kalibo. Easter is also a big event in this predominantly christian country.

    With over 7,000 islands there are mile of coastline in the Philippines. Away from the popular beaches of Boracay and Cebu there are a range of quieter spots especially in the Southern Visayas and around Palawan.

    There are more than 100 cultural minority groups in the Philippines, and around half of these have unique linguistic cultures. The most well known are the Ifugao, and their culture is alive and well around the rice terraces of Banaue.

    Most of the Philippine islands feature volcanic mountains, several of which have been increasingly active since the 1980s. The most accessible are Mount Pinatubo which last erupted in 1991 and Taal volcano one crater of which erupted in 1977.

Located overlooking the white sand beach of Alona, the Amorita Resort is a small resort of 20 rooms and 14 villas. Its philosophy is to ensure that their staff are happy, this way ensuring that the guests are well looked after.

The resorts wellness spa was still under construction at the time of writing but once finished will offer a lovely addition to the resort for people looking to totally unwind. However massages can currently be arranged in room when booked in advance.

Various excursions to some of the sights of interest found on Bohol as well as whale and dolphin watching trips can be arranged through the resorts front desk or dive shop, where kayaks and snorkelling equipment can also be hired.

For divers, Alona Beach and Bohol is a great spot to be based. There are various reefs of interest in the immediate vicinity of Alona including the Amorita house reef which is a small marine sanctuary. Slightly further afield but easily reach for a days worth of world class diving is Balicasag Island, which should not be missed by any diving enthusiast. The dive shop is very well run and is equipped with essentially brand new kit for those needing to hire this. They also offer PADI courses for beginners and advanced divers alike.
