Day 4Hanoi - Halong City
Drive out of Hanoi today to the wonder that is Halong Bay, a series of over three thousand limestone islands which jet up from the sea.
Spend the day on a traditional Vietnamese junk cruising through the Islands and exploring the numerous hidden grottos and secluded beaches.
Day 5Halong City - Hanoi - Hue
You disembark the junk around midday after having an early lunch on board. You shall then be taken back to Hanoi for your evening flight to Hue.
On arrival at Hue you shall be met and taken to your hotel.
Take a boat along the Perfume River and discover the tombs of Ming Mang and the famous Thien Mu Pagoda. Hue reflects the imperialistic history and Chinese links in Vietnam and is arguably the most traditional city in the country.
In the afternoon you explore the impressive citadel which dominates the centre of Hue and was once home to the last Emperor of Vietnam; Hue was also taken by the Viet Cong during the American War.
Leave Hue and transfer across the impressive Hai Van Pass to the charming town of Hoi An.
After settling into your hotel you shall be taken on a short walking tour of the UNESCO heritage site which is Hoi An old town.
Explore the stunning scenery around Hoi An by bike visiting rural villages and learning more about daily life in this part of the world.
You have the day free today to visit Hoi An's many tailors or venture to the nearby beach.
Leave Hoi An and fly south to the city of Saigon, on arrival you shall be met and taken to your hotel.
En route to the city you visit the site of the Cu Chi tunnels which were used to devastating effect by the Viet Cong during the war with America.
Discover this city where east meets west, stroll along the wide boulevards lined with pretty colonial buildings before venturing into the bustling Chinatown area of Cholon.
Leave Vietnam and fly to the Cambodian city of Siem Reap, home to the incredible temples of Angkor.
After settling into your hotel you shall be taken out to the main complex to watch the sunset over the famous towers of Angkor Wat.
An early start today is the only way to ensure that you see the magnificent colours of the Khmer sunrise whilst being surrounded by, my favourite temple, Ta Prohm. You will have the place to yourself at dawn and the mist rising from this ancient ruin really adds to the eeriness of Ta Prohm.
You return to the site later in the day to explore the remaining temples on the main complex.
Venture out of Siem Reap and visit the great Tonle Sap lake, home to a number of floating villages.
Leave Siem Reap today and fly to Singapore and then onto the UK later this evening.
Singapore airport boasts a number of facilities if you have a long transfer time, visits into the city can also be arranged should you wish.
