On This Trip
- Go wildlife spotting in the Dana Nature Reserve
- Admire the astounding rock city of Petra
Further to the success of last year’s climb of Mount Toubkal, we are pleased to announce news of our second fundraising trip in support of the Audley Charity Portfolio and are delighted to invite you to join us on the five-day trek through Jordan’s wilderness to Petra, starting in Gregra village at the mouth of Wadi Feynan. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore this beautiful country, crossing dune deserts and navigating mountain paths that culminate in spectacular vistas, before arriving at the unique and legendary city of Petra.
The trip departs on the 18th October 2008 and will be seven nights in total, with four of these spent camping during our trekking days. The cost of this trip is £1,295 per person based on two sharing, including flights from London Heathrow, taxes, transfers, accommodation, trek facilities and most meals. Please contact us for details if you are a single traveller. The price also includes a minimum £150 donation to our chosen charities although we ask that you increase your donation by gaining sponsorship for the trek. Please note that we are offering this trip at cost price and will not be making any profit. Last year we raised a fantastic £8,000 for projects in our Charity Portfolio.
The charities
This charity trek will be in aid of two charities: Friends of Conservation and the Al-Hussein Society for the Physically Handicapped.
Friends of Conservation was one of our first beneficiaries when we set up our charity portfolio in 2005. Friends of Conservation work worldwide to support community based conservation projects in the struggle to save endangered species and habitats. In 2006 we decided to start 'compensating' for the carbon emissions from flights taken by our specialists on their research trips, supporting the charity’s forestry and fuel efficiency projects that aim to offset the effects of climate change.
Al-Hussein Society for the Physically Handicapped is a Jordanian charity, which focuses most of its activity on physically handicapped children and aims to integrate them fully into society. This takes a number of forms from physical rehabilitation through to ensure the children have access to education. They take their work across the country, not just in the major urban centres and have an outreach programme, mobile clinics and a community-based development team to go into the more remote areas and deliver medical assistance, train local volunteers and work to get physically handicapped children into mainstream schools.
