This tour, explores two of the most diverse islands - Java and Sulawesi.

BaliYou start your trip with three nights in the relaxed city of Yogyakarta where you will visit the Buddhist temple site of Borobudur and the Hindu temple, Prambanan. From Yogya you take a train journey to Malang where you stay in the Tugu Malang hotel. This property contains the antique collections of its owner and is almost like staying in a museum of Asian history. Next stop is an early start to visit the smoking volcano of Mount Bromo - definitely worth missing some sleep for! From Bromo you head to Surabaya to stay in the colonial Majapahit hotel, built by the Sarkie brothers in the 1900s. After a Surabaya city tour you fly to Ujung Pandang on Sulawesi and from here you will explore the Toraja lands. The people here have a unique culture which is a mixture of animist and Christian beliefs. It is 800 metres above sea level so the climate is cooler which makes it perfect for some in-depth exploration. The main attractions are the distinctive traditional architecture, many interesting grave sites, and the fascinating funeral ceremonies, which you may be lucky enough to see while you are here. At the end of the tour you fly to Bali and then home.

We recommend you add a beach extension to your trip before coming home though as not only does Bali have some of the best beach properties in the world, it also has some of the friendliest people, and is well worth a visit.

If you are a keen diver, you may prefer to fly to Manado in Northern Sulawesi instead of back to Bali and extend your trip with some time in Bunaken Marine Park where you can experience some of the best diving in the world.
