On This Trip
  • Enjoy yourself at an airport!
  • Step back in time on the Sepik River

Very much a last frontier for travellers, the cultural diversity and natural environment of Papua New Guinea makes it a wonderful destination to have in our group tours programme. The 2008 group tour will include, for the first time, one of the country's fantastic festivals, the Morobe Show. We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of one of PNG's biggest cultural events with tribes from all over PNG gathering to perform traditional ceremonies, sing-sings (dances) and even agricultural practices. The tour starts in the temperate highlands at Tari, famous for the Huli tribe and incredible birds of paradise.

After three nights at the PATA awarded Ambua Lodge we travel to the mighty Sepik River staying at the remote Karawari Lodge. With stunning views of the surrounding rainforest and incredible bird life this area is wonderful for relaxing and soaking up the sights and sounds of the jungle or visiting local villages where the tribesmen spend their days carving masks and effigies in 'Haus Tambaran', spirit houses.

Our next stop, the capital of the highlands - Mt Hagen - provides a flavour of PNG city life and the Melpa people here are gregarious and welcoming. The Morobe Show is the last part of the tour and we spend two full days at this huge spectacle on the outskirts of the town of Lae.
