On This Trip
- Experience the flavours of Thai cuisine
- Visit the Bridge over the River Kwai
- Cruise along the Mekong from Luang Prabang
This new tour explores some of the lesser known sights of Thailand and Laos. The tour begins in the frenetic capital of Bangkok and a cycle tour of the city’s less-visited districts. Leaving Bangkok on a converted rice barge we will travel along the Chao Phraya river to the ancient capital of Ayuthaya, with its crumbling ruins. This is a leisurely overnight journey with a convivial dinner served on deck. From Ayuthaya we explore the Kanchanaburi province, taking in the town’s important WWII history as well as uncovering its rich, verdant scenery. Our stay here will be at a fantastic tented camp, set on the banks of the River Kwai.
Next stop is Laos and a stay at the Kamu Lodge, a picturesque eco-lodge on the banks of the Mekong. Anyone’s highlight of Laos is Luang Prabang, where you will spend three nights soaking up the atmosphere of this ancient riverside town. From here you explore southern Laos with its coffee-plantations and pre- Angkorian temples.
Crossing the border at Pakse back into Thailand, we will spend the night in Khong Jiam at a riverside resort. Wake up before dawn to take a spectacular sunrise boat trip before visiting the country’s lesser-visited Khmer sites, the most impressive is at Phanom Rung close to the Cambodian border. The tour ends at the beautiful Kirimaya Resort on the edge of Khao Yai National Park, where we explore the park on foot and can enjoy a well-deserved rest by the pool – a perfect place to reflect on our travels.
