- See the mass migration of wildebeest and zebra in the Serengeti
Every year, two million wildebeest and zebra traverse the Serengeti plains in the Great Migration, in search of water and fresh grazing. Predators including lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena are never far away, making game-viewing all the more exciting.
We have designed an adventurous safari to see not only the migration but some of Northern Tanzania’s most prolific wildlife regions. You will travel in modified Land Rovers and camp in areas where there are no other people at all - a private Audley campsite in the middle of the wilderness. At night dinner will be served under the stars, paraffin lanterns will light your way and the only sounds will be those of the wild animals around you. This ventures far from the beaten track and well away from any lodges. In short, it’s a proper old fashioned safari.
Departing in June, your safari begins at the remote and beautiful Lake Natron region. Visited by only a handful of people each year, you will see Maasai manyattas, clouds of flamingos on the lake, and beautiful waterfalls, with the impressive Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano dominating the horizon. From here you will continue to the Ngorongoro Crater, home to black rhino and a vast quantity of other wildlife including lion, buffalo, spotted hyena and elephant.
Saving the real highlight until the end, you will spend three nights in the heart of the action in the watching as columns of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle make their way north. You will camp in the Western Corridor, where crocodiles and hippos make the crossing of the Grumeti River all the more perilous. The safari ends in the small farming town of Arusha where you can choose to fly home or extend your trip with a relaxing stay on a Zanzibar beach.
