Lhasa, Tibet

For centuries one of the most mysterious countries on Earth, today Tibet welcomes travellers from all over the world to experience the simple spirituality of its lifestyle and join the pilgrims on their circumambulations.

The tour combines visits to smoky, atmospheric monasteries and temples, with travels through the beautiful and dramatic scenery of the Tibetan plateau. You will visit the holiest of temples in Lhasa, as well as heading out of the cities of Shigatse, Gyantse and Tsetang to see less-visited sights. The tour travels to Tibet on the remarkable new Lhasa Express, the world’s highest passenger railway, rising over two days from Beijing to a breathless 5,072 metres before descending into Lhasa. It is timed to coincide with the clear skies of autumn when the views of the mountains are at their finest. Road transport will be by private coach throughout and your local guide in Tibet will be ethnic Tibetan to help you gain an insight into the traditional way of life. As Tibet is extremely remote, the accommodation is not of a high standard but the hotels are clean and comfortable.
