Spend a night under the stars in The Wahiba Sands
Perhaps suited to families with older children, Oman is an exciting country full of 4x4 adventures through the wadis, mountains and desert. It has a fantastic climate, although very hot in the summer, making it particularly suitable for half-term breaks or Christmas holidays.
The hotels on the coast near Muscat are superb and many have extensive facilities including swimming pools, arranged activities and kids clubs. Due to the hotels a holiday based in Muscat would be suitable for children of any age.
However, for a touring itinerary taking in some of the highlights of the country we think it is more suitable for older children.
With a wide range of restaurants, attentive staff, children's pool and club, the Al Waha at Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah resort is great for families.
Located in an impressive desert basin with dunes rising to either side, the 1000 Nights Desert Camp is a great way to gain a taste of Bedouin life.
Set in the Wahiba Sands, the Desert Nights Camp offers luxury tented accommodation. Each air-conditioned tent includes a lounge, bedroom, bathroom and is equipped with all the facilities of a luxury hotel.
With its coastal location, 35 acres of extensive mature gardens, excellent facilities and spacious rooms, the Intercontinental is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Situated on a ridge high above the town of Al Hamra, the View Campsite consists of 15 tents. All the tents have laminate flooring, a basic air-conditioner and heater, and en suite shower rooms.
Go in search of dolphins and whales off the coast of Muscat.
Head to green turtle beach in the evening to watch turtles laying their eggs.
Explore the deep green and blue pools of Wadi Bani Khalid, where you can take a dip to cool off from the heat.
