The Child in Need Institute (CINI) in Calcutta helps children out of poverty
This registered charity works to break down the cycle of poverty, malnutrition and ill health in Calcutta.
It focuses on the most fundamental issues facing poor women and children in India, bringing about sustainable improvements in nutrition, health, education and protection from exploitation.
An example of their work is raising funds to help child labourers with academic and non academic support through educational camps, with the intention to successfully reintegrate these children into mainstream schools. These are intensive camps for children who have never been to school or those who have dropped out, helping to bring their educational level up to the standard necessary for regular school.
One of the long term aims of the project is to show parents that education is a better investment than child labour, as their children are more likely to find prosperous work as a result.
