The Elephant Festival is a unique event held annually in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan.
The festival is held at the city stadium during March each year and starts with a procession of elephants, camels and horses followed by folk dancers. Later elephant races, elephant-polo matches and tug-of-war between elephants and men will be held.
This unique event is held anually in Jaipur, the capital of the northern state of Rajasthan. This one day event showcases hundreds of elephants. Each elephant is beautifully decorated with bright cloth and heavy jewellery, and they participate in processions, run races and play polo. There is even a tug of war between elephants and men, a real highlight of this festival.
Jaipur, known as the Pink City because of its brightly-painted stone buildings, is a lively and bustling place founded in 1727. The City Palace houses an excellent, if somewhat eclectic, museum, and the magnificent Amber Palace lies on top of a hill just outside the city.
