Cape Breton Island was established as a national park in 1936 with the intention of protecting some of Canada’s most famous scenery. The best-known feature of the park is the Cabot Trail that draws thousands of visitors every year and is renowned for being one of the most spectacular coastal drives in North America.
The Cabot Trail is a land of mountains, forest wilderness, windswept coastal beauty and charming fishing villages. Each May the Cabot Trail Relay Race takes place. This running race attracts thousands from across Canada and the US in this 185 mile, 17 stage relay race through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
