The name Kaikoura comes from the Maori words for ‘eat’ and ‘crayfish’, and whilst in town you should definitely make sure to try this local delicacy. Better still, during October each year, the town has its own 'seafest' which enables you to sample food and beverages from all over the region.
This is Kaikoura's premier festival which features food and wine, with particular focus on seafood. The food and wine are from the local Kaikoura, Marlborough and North Canterbury regions. The festival has entertainment for all ages and is an excellent opportunity to sample food and beverages from all over the region.
Kaikoura is an idyllic small seaside township on a rocky peninsula, with a superb beach and also a walkway encased with pairs of whale ribs, known as the ‘Garden of Memories’.
