Holiday Ideas in October: Whale watching in South Africa
South Africa has excellent whale-watching opportunities, especially in October, which is the low tourist season. The climate during this month is warm and average temperatures are a pleasant 20°C (68°F).
Whale watching in South Africa
South Africa is one of the world's premier whale watching destinations due in part to the fact that two ocean currents (one warm, one cold) collide off its southern coast. This in turn attracts several species to feed and give berth. Two places are notable hotspots for whale watching; one is the pretty harbour town of Hermanus, the other is Walker Bay, where the sheer coastline allows migrating southern right whales to approach within metres of the shore. October is also the month which hosts the annual Whale Festival in Hermanus.
