The World's Best Tree House Accommodation

A unique way to spend the night, tree house accommodation comes in many shapes and sizes. From simple rustic housing to all out luxury, staying in a tree house is as much about the experience as it is a good night's sleep.

Serian, MAsai Mara

Reserva Amazonica Lodge, Peru

Spend a night in The Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica lodge's canopy tree house. Located in the southern Peruvian Amazon this accommodation offers utter seclusion and is one of the only places in the Amazon it is possible to do this. From the vantage point high in the canopy observe a range of wild animal species that are not usually visible from the ground, and listen to the amazing jungle sounds whilst unwinding at the relaxing Canopy Bar.

Kwetsani, Botswana

This classic Wilderness Safaris camp in the private Jao Concession of the Okavango Delta has rooms which are set up high amongst the trees and connected by wooden walkways through the canopy. This is a great area for bird watching and the waterbased activities of the Delta, boat trips and mokoros.

Tranquil Hideaway, Kerala, India

Tranquil Hideaway in Kerala is a wonderful country retreat in the heart of a large coffee plantation. A firm favourite of ours, a warm welcome is guaranteed from the hosts, Victor and Jini, who manage the coffee plantation. The family occupy the main house while standard guest rooms are in a separate wing and two tree houses. The tree houses offer far-reaching views over the tree tops and surrounding countryside.

Tarangire Treetops, Tanzania

Tarangire Treetops is situated in a Maasai concession area, 45 minutes from the Boundary Hill gate to the Tarangire Park. There are twenty luxury houses built on stilts in the branches of baobab trees. They are exceptionally pretty with polished wooden floors, large beds covered in bright fabrics, sweeping mosquito nets and lots of big cushions on the verandas under the branches. It is possible to enjoy nature walks from lodge or full day drives into the park. It's an ideal lodge to relax a bit at, as well as enjoying safari.

Tsala Treetops, South Africa

Located on the private Hunter Estate on the Garden Route between Plett and Knynsa, this luxurious Relais & Chateaux property has huge spacious suites that are set up high in the tree tops and connected by wooden walkways. Tsala Treetops truly is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the views of the forest and hills, and is also a good base from which to explore this section of the Garden Route.

Tree House Hideaway, Bandhavgarh NP, India

Located in Ketkiya village this small camp consists of five exclusive tree houses that are spread around a dense jungle of 21 acres. Designed in a traditional jungle living and contemporary design, the tree houses are self-contained and furnished with understated accessories in natural earth tones. All tree houses have modern attached bathrooms with 24-hour hot and cold water and loungers on the balconies. The dining area is built around a huge Mahua tree on two levels.

Tongabezi Tree House, Livingstone, Zambia

Tongabezi Lodge is located in a tranquil spot on the banks of the Zambezi River, close to Victoria Falls. The Tree House is one of their luxury houses - built around a huge, old riverine trees overlooking the river. Suspended over the river the lowest deck is taken up by an extensive bathroom with a large sunken bath.

Mokolwane, Botswana

Mokolwane Camp overlooks the Matsibe River, deep in the western sector of the Okavango Delta. Charming in their simplicity, five comfortable tree houses are set amongst the deep shade of the fig trees, jackalberrys, wild mangosteens and ilala palms from which the camp takes its name. All have lovely views and offer ensuite showers with hot and cold running water and flushing loos, as well as mosquito nets over the beds.
