Biography

Alex first fell in love with Africa in 2001, when she left England to spend a year working in Dar es Salaam. During this time she took the opportunity to explore Tanzania: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, camping in the Serengeti and snorkelling off Zanzibar. More recently her passion for travel has led to a job with Audley, where she has revisited Africa for several extensive research trips. She has driven herself around Kenya and indulged her love of Tanzania with many weeks on safari. Despite run-ins with grumpy lions and hours spent digging her vehicles out of the mud of the Masai Mara, Alex's enthusiasm for Africa remains undiminished, and she spends much of her spare time planning her next safari.

Favourite Destination - Mahale Mountains National Park

"A large plane, a smaller plane, and then a boat - getting to Mahale isn't easy, but it's still one of my favourite places in Africa.

Stunning sunrises and shooting stars seem natural here, it's so magical I could go back time and time again and still never be bored."

Favourite Accommodation - Beho Beho

"Beho Beho is wonderful. Incredible views over the bush, telescopes to spot animals from your room, charming staff, great food, some of the best guides in Africa. I could go on..."

Most Memorable Experience

"Most memorable travel experience? Eating my picnic lunch on the front of my landrover in the Northern Serengeti.

I had a grey hard-boiled egg, a flat coke and 100 elephants, all to myself for 3 hours as they trundled through some of the most beautiful scenery in Tanzania."
