Biography

Donna fishing for Nile perch, Lake Victoria, Kenya

Donna first visited Africa while studying zoology at university. After spending three weeks researching her thesis in South Africa's Kruger National Park, she spend several months exploring various counties with a particular interest in the game reserves and bird life. These countries included Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Donna's interests then took her to North Africa were she lived in Cairo and worked as a guide and tour leader. Since joining Audley, Donna has travelled extensively in Africa and has spent a great deal of time in both Kenya and Tanzania where she enjoyed exploring the various game reserves and national parks. She has been lucky enough to see the annual wildebeest migration from both Kenya and Tanzania, and other highlights include fishing for Nile Perch on Lake Victoria, a horse riding safari in the Laikipia region and spending time on the stunning beaches of Zanzibar.

Donna has also recently returned from a trip to Madagascar. Here she was able to indulge her love of wildlife, spend time trekking in the varied habitats and explore the stunning beaches.

My Most Memorable Experience

On my first trip to the Masai Mara I was exteremly lucky! It was the end of June and typically far too early for the annual migration. However on my second day in the reserve I witnessed thousands of wildebeest making their way into Kenya from Tanzania! For the next few days I saw some of them succumb to crocodiles and lions as they made their way back and forth across the Mara river! The migration really is impressive and seeing it first hand is by far one of my most memorable travel experiences.

My Favourite Destination

Madagascar,

My favourite destination, without doubt is Madagascar. I first visited in November of 2011 and was immediately struck by just how unique the country is, it is unlike anywhere else in Africa. The habitants are varied and range from hot, humid rain forest to dry spiny forest to large expanses of desert. The wildlife is just as varied and by far my favourite are the many different Lemur species - these little primate have bags of character and everyone that visits Madagascar is bound to be charmed by them!

My Favourite Accommodation

Naibor Camp, Kenya

Naibor Camp in the Masai Mara is one of my favourite places to stay in Kenya. I visited this camp in June of 2010 for a stylish but authentic safari experience. I very much liked the mix of modern decor with traditional tents and bucket showers. The location of the camp is great for game viewing and there is nothing better than falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the animals in the Masai Mara.
