Kate's desire to travel the world was inspired by her father's stories of living in Africa and the Middle East in the 1970's.
Deciding to study geography for her degree was a given for Kate, and her passion for international development provided her with the opportunity to complete her dissertation research on migration patterns in Sumatra, Indonesia.
After graduating Kate was off again, this time to India. She lived in Bangalore for 10 months working as a fundraiser for an international disability organisation, which also took her to some of India's and Sri Lanka's major cities and national parks.
To deepen Kate's interest in wildlife, she has recently spent an extensive time on safari in Tanzania, exploring the white beaches of Zanzibar and also the idyllic islands of The Seychelles. In her free time Kate enjoys travel photography, cycling, long walks and her cottage in the countryside.
My Most Memorable Experience
"My favourite experience was watching thousands of wildebeest cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti during the Great Migration.
The sheer numbers and the chaos was something that cannot be compared with any other safari experience in my opinion; it was nerve-racking but absolutely mind blowing.
Seeing an ancient but natural phenomenon like this take place is truly a once in a life time experience!"
My Favourite Destination

"Selous Game Reserve, in my opinion, is the most amazing reserve in Tanzania; it feels very wild and you can go for hours if not days without seeing anyone else.
The landscape is varied, with a plethora of wildlife such as large pods of hippo, great numbers of elephant, lion, and even wild dog. The lakes and rivers mean you can see a different side to Africa, giving you the opportunity to get deeper into the bush where you'll find the most spectacular birds.
The main benefits of Selous is that you can enjoy boating trips, walking safari's and also get off-road in your jeep, something very unique.
I'd happily go back time-and-time again!"
My Favourite Accommodation

"When I think of being in Tanzania I think of being in Beho Beho, a truly magical lodge located in the Beho Beho hills in the Selous Game Reserve.
The lodge has its own airstrip due to the remoteness, which means you are unlikely to see any other jeeps on your game drives. The independent bandas are beautifully decorated and have incredible views over the bush; when I stayed there I could hear elephant crashing around below me as I fell asleep.
The chic colonial style of the property, combined with the fine dining food, impressive guides and the views, mean that Beho Beho - is in my eyes - beyond compare."
