Highlights included snorkelling off Praslin and a turtle coming up to nest beside him whilst he sat on the beach! He crossed the Mara several times and slept in a star-bed on the Laikipia Plateau and walked in the Selous. During his free time Russell enjoys playing football and tennis.

Favourite Destination - Masai Mara National Reserve

"I love the Masai Mara, it's where I first ever went on safari and I still visit regularaly today. The concentration of game in this area is simply stunning, as good as anywhere in Africa.

I particularaly like this area slightly out of season, in June, November anbd December you can pretty much have this amazing National park to yourself."

Favourite Accommodation - Sabuk Lodge

"Sabuk Wilderness Lodge on the Laikipia Plateau is one of my favourite places in Africa. The lodge is open sided to take advantage of the amazing views of the beautiful landscape which surround it.

I really like sitting in bed with a hot cup of coffee watching the raging river below.

Plenty of activities are on offer but my favourite is camel trekking, this is a brilliant way to explore the area and get up close to the wildlife."

Most Memorable Experience

"I sat on the wonderful beach which surrounds Bird Island after a very rewarding snorkel in its crystal clear waters. I looked up after finally managing to remove my flipper to see a large turtle paddling its way up the beach towards me.

Over the next hour this magnificent creature had dug a hole in the sand and lay her eggs, whilst I sat very quietly not more than 4 metres away.

This is a memory that will last all of my life, just the turtle the Indian Ocean and me."
