Biography
Growing up in the countryside in a small Gloucestershire village may well have inspired Rupert to travel and see what else the world had to offer. Soon after school he headed off for an epic adventure around India and Nepal and has travelled extensively since for both work and pleasure.
After a stint working as an India specialist for Audley he realised a pipe dream and returned to India to manage a safari lodge in a tiger reserve with his young family. Returning 'home' to Audley, Rupert's love of the wilderness and wildlife has led him to Canada where he has been lucky to explore British Columbia and Alberta, including Vancouver Island and the Rockies. Highlights include the dramatic scenery of the rugged and imposing mountains, the fresh sea air and delicious seafood of the coastal region, the vast wilderness teeming with wildlife and the infectious enthusiasm of the Canadians.
In his spare time, Rupert plays cricket badly, likes the outdoors and is kept very busy by his two young sons!
My Most Memorable Experience
"Trips to Canada are often very ‘experience’ and activity focussed, so choosing one is very difficult. However, I would rate overcoming my mild fear of heights during a zip wiring excursion in Whistler as being up there with some of the best. The trip, run by eco tours, is very well organised and whilst suitable for thrill seekers, is also a great way to explore the forest canopy and learn about the threats and challenges the forests have faced over the years."
My Favourite Destination

"If you enjoy the outdoors and natural beauty, Wells Gray Provincial Park could be a good option for a couple of days. This often overlooked wilderness covers an area the size of Norfolk and is made up of canyons, waterfalls, lakes and thick forest supporting mammals including Bear, Coyote and Wolf and myriad bird species.
During a stay in Wells Gray or nearby Clearwater, you can take a guided walk within in the Park, fly fish for trout in one of the many nearby lakes, hike or ride some of the trails on horseback and even experience some of the best white water rafting that the country has to offer.
I would highly recommend a visit but it is worth noting that there are likely to be midges and mosquitoes so pack some repellent!"
My Favourite Accommodation

"During work trips I really enjoy visiting our smaller properties as it is always a pleasure to meet the owners, find out a bit about them and hear their stories. Guesthouses and B&B’s are more personal than the larger city hotels and the owners are a good source of local knowledge and information.
Nowhere is this truer than at Clearwater Springs Ranch which is situated in an isolated location in the pristine wilderness on the edge of the Provincial Park. This beautiful family home has some incredible views and black and grizzly bears are often seen foraging for berries on the edge of the forest. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the hot tub at the front of the property is a great way to unwind after a day’s hiking. As with most of our smaller properties, early booking is advised!"
