Biography
Upon completion of his university degree at Bristol, Roger travelled extensively throughout Africa, Asia and Europe in his role as a tour leader for a UK adventure-travel company.
After being introduced to Africa while working on walking and mountain biking trips in Morocco, he spent considerable time in Africa and conquered Mount Kilimanjaro no less than seven times! These experiences fuelled his passion for the continent, its wildlife and varied cultures, and he has since returned to both Southern & East Africa on many occasions.
The world's highest peaks also captured his attention and the Himalaya soon became a firm favourite. Having hung up his leading boots he has returned to Nepal on numerous occasions with Audley and enjoyed a more comfortable approach to the mountain experience alongside the rich history of the Kathmandu Valley. Recent travels have also included the forts & palaces of Rajasthan and hill stations of north east India along with time in the enchanting Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan.
Outside of the office Roger can be found exploring the UK's high places on foot or by bike with the occasional country pub en route!
My Most Memorable Experience
Standing on the highest point of Africa as the sun rises over the horizon is a breathtaking moment and a memory to cherish for the rest of my life. Having trekked for 5 days and battled both the outdoor elements and the altitude on the mountain the feeling of accomplishment is overwhelming.
My Favourite Destination

With the mighty Himalayan mountain range as a dramatic back drop Kathmandu is an exciting & vibrant city from the moment you step of the plane. Entering the labyrinth of winding alleyways and hidden squares of this ancient capital is like a sensory overload with buzzing streets & colourful market stalls giving way to quiet gardens and atmospheric shrines & temples.
My favourite place in Kathmandu is the Bodnath Stupa, one of holiest Buddhist sites in the city, where locals come at the end of the day to circumambulate the stupa in order to reflect on the day and to pay homage to their Gods. Surrounded by craft shops and cafes this is a great place to be able to join in with the locals or simply to sit back and people watch.
My Favourite Accommodation

Himalaya Lodge is perched high up in the foothills of the mighty Himalaya in the small hillside village of Ghandruk. The views across to the Annapurna mountains is inspiring and after a long day's trek I don't think you could beat the view of the sun setting on the 8000m peaks
With only 11 rooms the atmosphere is cosy and intimate and the friendly staff will ensure your aching limbs are eased with good wholesome local food and drink after your day's trek.
