Taking every opportunity get away, Carol visited many places around the globe before embarking on a round the world trip which included trekking the Inca Trail, scuba diving with sharks in Australia, the jungles of Borneo and Everest Base Camp. She went on to spend three months travelling throughout the Subcontinent where she loved the vibrancy, the food and the diversity of these amazing countries.
Since starting at Audley Carol has spent a month in Rajasthan and the Himalayan Foothills exploring the bazaars and learning the secrets of Indian cooking. Most recently she has returned to Nepal spending time trekking, rafting as well as watching wild elephants in the Chitwan National Park.
In her free time she enjoys planning her next adventure as well as trekking, mountain biking and making a home after a long time living out of a travel bag!
My Most Memorable Experience
"Trekking in the Himalayas has got to be the highlight of my travels. During my visit, we trekked for 12 days solid through constantly changing and stunningly beautiful mountain scenery. The view of Everest in the distance spurred me on and I felt humbled to be in its shadow.
"Although it was incredibly challenging, every day was a huge reward and I always felt as though I had really deserved those frozen chocolate bars that I came to know and love. It was an experience that even now provokes goose bumps and one that I'm sure I will always remember."
My Favourite Destination
"Home to the Dali Llama, Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj are stunning neighbouring towns set in the mountains of the Himalayan Foothills. Feeling worlds away from the hustle and bustle of India as you might know it, Dharamsala is a place of calm and tranquility.
"In monsoon season, an early morning view of the surrounding mountains shrouded in mist is an unforgettable sight, but be sure to wrap up warm as the hills can be chilly at this time of day. The area has the feel of an alpine resort with plenty of places to walk around and soak up the wonderful atmosphere."
My Favourite Accommodation
"Fort Barli in Rajasthan is an intimate heritage fort which dates back to 1675. From here you can explore the village of Barli by foot or by bullock cart and meet the local cobbler or visit the beautiful temple. You can't help but feel humbled by the warm welcome that awaits visitors from the local children and villagers.
"The fort itself offers a variety of other activities to choose from such as dressing in traditional Indian wedding attire and learning about traditional henna paintings. Guests are treated like one of the Maharani that once lived there and will always remember the beautiful surrounds of this unique stay."
