If you would like to see the less visited sights along the Nile, try a cruise on a dahabiyya. These sailing boats allow you to visit areas that the bigger cruise ships cannot get to. Quote end

Biography

Fiona learning how to make carpet in Cairo, Egypt

While at university, Fiona took every opportunity to travel and quickly fell in love with Morocco and its diverse range of culture and scenery. From the Sahara desert to the mountains, coast and imperial cities with their traditional riads, Fiona has explored and stayed in some of the best places that Morocco has to offer.

Since joining Audley, Fiona has toured Egypt extensively and enjoyed learning about the incredible history and timeless monuments to be found around the Nile Valley.

When not enthusing about travel, Fiona’s pastimes include ballroom and latin dancing and cycling.

My Most Memorable Experience

"Among many contenders, my favourite experience is visiting Oudhna, a relatively unvisited site in the north of Tunisia. Compared to others, it is relatively small, but seeing the archaeologists at work is fascinating and really makes you wonder how many more Roman ruins are left hidden under the earth!"

My Favourite Destination

Marrakesh, Morocco

My favourite destination has to be Marrakesh. It has everything, from great shopping in the souks with their smells of leather and spices, to excellent entertainment in the Djemaa el Fna with the storytellers, acrobats and tasty tagines. All this against the picturesque backdrop of the Atlas Mountains.

My Favourite Accommodation

Dar Chennoufi, Tunisia

"My favourite accomodation is Dar Chennoufi. It is a wonderfully homely guesthouse situated in the small town of Le Kef, and offers amazing service, fantastic home cooked food and a lovely swimming pool in the garden."
