Biography

Having already found a passion for travelling, Phil graduated from Brunel University and immediately set off to see more of the world. His first port of call was South America, which immediately fired a deep interest and love of the continent. Phil travelled extensively through Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, as well as Central America. Upon joining Audley, he returned to Peru, Bolivia and Chile to complement his knowledge. Amongst more recent trips to South America on behalf of Audley, he has re-visited Ecuador (where he fulfilled a lifelong ambition of climbing Cotopaxi volcano), cruised in the Galapagos Islands, kayaked in Antarctica and explored Colombia, he has also visited the Arctic.

Favourite Destination - Antarctica

"With out doubt my favourite destination is Antarctica. I was lucky enough to board an expedition vessel for 10 nights and experience this incredible continent first hand.

From the anticiption of leaving the tip of South America to walking on the continent for the first time, every moment is just magical.

The sheer size of Antarctica is just bewildering, and the peace extraordinary.

In my opinion, it is the most beautiful destination I have visited and one of the only places I know I will go back to."

Favourite Accommodation - Hotel Explora

"The Explora en Patagonia lies deep within the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park in Chilean Patagonia. It is the perfect base from which to explore the park whether it be on foot, mountain bike or on horse back, and it is the perfect retreat after a hard days exploring.

The guides knowledge and enthusiam is second to none which really adds to the whole experiance.

Strategically located on the shores of Lake Pehoe the views from Explora are incredible over the Cordillera del Paine mountain range.

Explora is so much more than a hotel, it a whole new concept for exploration and relaxation."

Most Memorable Experience

"Kayaking in Antarctic waters has to be one of my most amazing travel experiences.

Gently paddling away from the expedition vessel, through the icy waters to explore the coast lines and islands was just incredible. It was such a great way to get closer to the nature without the sound of an engine.

Gentoo Penguins would follow the kayak, jumping clean out of the water, and for me it doesn't come much better than getting up close to enormous leopard seals lazing on ice flows, watching you without moving a muscle as you slowly paddle by."
