Biography
After graduating from Leeds University, Angela began a career in conference and event management. A 12 month career break took Angela to Southeast Asia and on returning to the UK, she found herself being drawn back to the area each year. Her love of the region, and particularly the wildlife, led her to volunteer at an Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo. This experience proved to be the catalyst for a change of career, and since joining Audley, Angela has revisited Southeast Asia on two occasions and has achieved a life long dream of viewing wild orang-utan. Outside of work, Angela is a keen photographer, scuba diver and enjoys the outdoors; activities that make the regions of Borneo, Malaysia and Indonesia even more appealing.
My Most Memorable Experience
"After a full day cruising the tributaries of the Kinabatangan River, with numerous sightings of Proboscis Monkeys, Long-tailed Macaque and Rhinoceros Hornbill under our belt, the heavens opened in true tropical rainforest style. Turning to head back to the lodge my guide spotted movement high in the trees. We cut the boats engine and sat in silence, watching a large male Orang-utan hurrying to make his nest for the night. Suddenly the rain seemed insignificant."
My Favourite Destination
"White palm fringed beaches, clear turquoise seas and fantastic marine life. What's not to love about Lankayan Island in Malaysian Borneo?
This tiny unspoilt island is a haven for divers, snorkellers and beach-goers alike and is the perfect place to truly relax."
My Favourite Accommodation
"My memory of staying at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge is one of unexpected luxury in a remote back-to-nature environment. The simple yet stylish accommodation, combined with the superb riverside location, exceptional food and possible close-up Orang-utan encounters make the exhausting jungle treks and leeches all worthwhile."
