Visit the Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai (Thailand) in the evening. Not only will you get the chance to hear the monks evening chants but the views over Chiang Mai as night time falls are hypnotic. Quote end

Whilst in Amphawa, experience an evening by longboat through the winding canals and floating markets to see the local fireflies. Quote end

Try the local delicacies and restaurants whist in Penang. The cuisine is exquisite and full of flavour. I’d highly recommend ‘Passage Thru India’ whilst in George Town if you like Indian cuisine. Quote end

Biography

Rebecca on a Segway tour, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Rebecca's passion for travel sprung from an early age with multiple family holidays abroad. But it was her first solo trip before university where she truly fell in love with Southeast Asia, especially the vibrant and colourful traditions of Thailand. She was able to travel through this culturally rich country, soaking up the exotic landscape and tranquil scenery, and she even got the chance to get up close and personal with tigers, monkeys and even elephants.

Since then, Rebecca has studied drama and English at Bristol, graduating in 2012 with First Class Honours. She then went on to do a spot of acting work on stage and film but it was her enthusiasm and knowledge for travel and the region that led her to Audley travel as her first graduate position. This has allowed her the opportunity to return to Southeast Asia, to further explore and discover both Thailand and Malaysia more extensively whilst venturing off-the-beaten-track. Rebecca looks forward to sharing this zeal for this beautiful region with other travel enthusiasts in her Audley career.

When not working or planning her next travels, Rebecca enjoys being outdoors and active, from swimming, biking to dancing. She also enjoys cooking, music and socialising with her friends.

My Most Memorable Experience

It would certainly have to be getting the chance to meet and wash elephants in the Golden Triangle, Thailand. After getting to meet these majestic creatures, the mahout trainers help you to get to know your elephant, as you then climb on to its back and trek through the conserve eventually leading them into the lake for washing. It was a completely overwhelming experience, as I have a great adoration for animals, and it will undoubtedly be an experience that will stay with me for a lifetime. Especially the moment when my elephant, Bobo, became more playful and began spraying water back over me with her trunk; absolutely magical!

My Favourite Destination

Malacca, Malaysia

One of my personal highlights of Malaysia has to be the city of Malacca. With its atmospheric and winding streets, you are transported through a thriving and illustrious past. This melting-pot of cultures is reminiscent in the cities grand architecture, from the ancient temples in Chinatown to the 16th Century Portuguese Catholic churches and 17th Century Dutch colonies. The UNESCO Heritage Walks allows you to take in all the sites at your own pace, to discover this traditional trading port, as there is something interesting to see on every corner. I would recommend a weekend visit as the street markets are bustling and thriving.

My Favourite Accommodation

Six Senses Hideaway at Yao Noi, Thailand

For a complete and tranquil getaway, one of my favourite resorts was the Six Senses on Koh Yao Noi. Set in an unspoilt island in the middle of tranquil turquoise sea, this rustic resort has barefoot luxury to a fine art.

Its individual villas are set into the mountainside, with breathtaking views of either Phang Nga Bay or lush tropical rainforest. You are transported to a beautifully simple haven where you can choose to relax at the hilltop pool hideaway with mesmerising panoramic views, or down on its quiet and secluded beach, or even venture out on a local snorkelling trip if you're feeling more adventurous.

It's an elegant and unassuming resort with an unbeatable backdrop.
