The Halliburton was built back in 1809 to be the home of Sir Brenton Halliburton, the first Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.
The present day hotel pays homage to its homely origins; each of the 29 rooms and suites is a unique shape with its own decor, with some offering private balconies, while others feature wood-burning fireplaces. Sir Brenton’s library on the main floor is now a comfortable, fireside seating area and across the lobby, you’ll find the popular onsite restaurant, Stories.
OUR OPINION:
This elegant hotel is well located in Halifax, with the city's harbour and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic accessible easily on foot. We particularly like the unique nature of each room — and the tasty breakfast! If you are driving, be aware that there is limited parking on a first-come first-served basis.

Rooms
Rooms at the Halliburton are divided into two main categories: regular guest rooms and one bedroom suites, the latter option offering more space. Each suite has a separate bedroom from the living room which includes sofa bed, fireplace, wet bar and small fridge. Given the historic nature of this property, room sizes and layouts vary and some can be quite small. All rooms are upstairs and there is no lift. However, there are porters on hand to help with luggage. All rooms have a TV, private bathroom and air conditioning. Some also feature either wood burning fireplace or private balcony.
Location
The Halliburton is in the heart of downtown Halifax, steps from the charming waterfront. Although parking is available, this boutique is an ideal base to explore Halifax by foot.
Food and drink
Stories is known locally for its inventive and varied menu. The restaurant offers an intimate dining experience and, with only a handful of tables, reservations are recommended. The chef designs a new menu every day which is posted at 4pm. You can also try the blind tasting menu for something more adventurous. During the summer months, the private courtyard opens for cocktails and there is the option to dine alfresco.
Facilities and activities
Just inside the lobby you’ll find Sir Brenton Halliburton’s library. The library features comfortable, fireside seating, a computer with a printer, and freshly brewed Fairtrade coffee daily. The Halliburton’s restaurant is open daily for dinner. There’s also parking at the hotel.
