Constance Lemuria

Praslin, The Seychelles

The Constance Lemuria is a luxury five-star resort, set in the north of the island, with access to a choice of beautiful beaches. The hotel has been carefully designed, and the 105 suites blend in to the surrounding vegetation. Inside, the rooms are spacious and stylish, with lots of good attention to detail. Outside, although vegetation prevents a sea view, the beach is a mere 10 m (33 ft) or so away, across the lawn.

As you would expect from a five-star resort, there are several dining option with three restaurants offering different cuisines, located in the main hotel, above the beach and overlooking the golf course. Seafood is particularly good at the resort, and you can expect to enjoy some of the freshest fish and shellfish cooked to perfection.

Whether you are looking for lots of activities or relaxation and pampering, Lemuria won't disappoint. There is the only 18-hole golf course in the Seychelles and plenty of water sports to enjoy. To relax, you could choose to enjoy some treatments in the spa or perhaps just snooze on the beach with a book.

OUR OPINION:

We think that the Constance Lemuria has been well designed, and provides every luxury. The beaches the resort is built around are beautiful, and there is always plenty of space on the beach to sit and relax. If you want a stay in a resort where the service and food are consistently good, and you have all your creature comforts, it is hard to find one better than Lemuria. We send a number of guests here, and have always received very positive feedback. In addition, the Audley team always really enjoy their stays here. We can warmly recommend it.

Rooms

Constance Lemuria has 105 suites, divided into four different room types. All are constructed in wood, marble, stone and pink granite. All the junior suites are designed in a minimalist, yet luxurious style. Facilities include air conditioning, television, CD/DVD players and ceiling fans.

There are 88 junior suites, which are 52 sq m (559 sq ft) in size and set in the gardens. Outside, there is a terrace and sun lounge chairs in the shade of overhanging palm trees. The eight senior suites 115 sq m (1,237 sq ft) are located on either the ground or upper floor of the two storey cottages. Each senior suite has all the facilities of the junior suite, but in addition has a separate lounge area, an extra shower and toilet and a double size terrace.

There are eight villas for those people looking for some serious luxury, each one 725 sq m (7,803 sq ft) in size. The villas have two bedrooms, a lounge, dining room, massage area, open-air bath, terrace and good sized pool with a pool deck. All villas are serviced by a 'villa master'.

Finally, the presidential villa is extremely large at 1,250 sq m (13,454 sq ft) and has three bedrooms, a lounge, dining room, office, open-air bath and swimming pool on three levels. Every facility is available from DVDs and Sony PlayStations to outside Jacuzzis and open-air baths.

Location

Set on the northwest tip of Praslin island, Constance Lemuria has a secluded location, set at the Anse Kerlan cluster of beaches, where turtles lay their eggs, and the sand is soft and white. The three beaches are sheltered and the water calm during most months, so it is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Food and drink

Food is consistently good at Lemuria. There are three restaurants to choose from. The Legend Restaurant is the main hotel restaurant, and serves breakfast and dinner. The Ziwa Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and offers Mediterranean cuisine, with a view over the golf course. Finally, The Nest is in a wonderful position above the beach, and offers Creole cuisine. There is a small bar near the pool, and one at each of the restaurants. Please note that the food and drinks served at Lemuria are certainly on the pricey side. A bottle of wine could cost from 50 euros.

Families

There is a kids' club at Lemuria, which welcomes children between 4 and 11 years of age. This combines indoor and outdoor play areas, specific activities for the little ones, such as arts and crafts, and theme days such as pizza making. Babysitting can be arranged at an additional cost.

Facilities and activities

There is an 18-hole championship golf course, and green fees are complimentary. Other activities at Lemuria include the following: windsurfing, snorkelling, pedalos, kayaks, lasers and mountain bikes.

There are three swimming pools, floodlit tennis courts and a small gym. Other activities that can be arranged at an extra cost include scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and water sport lessons, golf and tennis lessons.

There is a Shiseido Spa with comprehensive beauty treatments. Free facilities at the spa include sauna, Jacuzzi and steam bath. Massage and body treatments, and hairdressing are available for an extra charge.

There is a small selection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs in the library, available for guests' use, and a shop offers a range of products.

Environmental and social responsibility

The beaches surrounding Lemuria are a key nesting site for turtles. The hotel has a Turtle Watchers Code of Conduct, created and monitored by the in-house turtle officers. Guests are encouraged to report any turtle sightings to the officers, who will ensure that the site is protected and the turtle has a safe nesting and return to the sea.

Diving

Lemuria has a PADI-certified dive facility at the resort. Dive courses can be arranged.
