Reasons to Visit
Zambia is a safari destination for the connoisseur, boasting a fantastic range of wildlife in its diverse national parks. Many amazing game experiences can be had within the national parks, with lion virtually guaranteed and leopard in abundance. This superb array of game can be appreciated on foot, by car or on the water.
Zambia offers the full range of fascinating, colourful birdlife you’d expect to see on safari, with a range of water based birds in the Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks. The Bangweulu Wetlands are one of the few places on the planet where you can see the impressive Shoebill Stork.
An evening cruise on the Zambezi in Livingstone and game viewing from Kafue’s Lufupa River are wonderfully relaxing, but best of all are the water based activities in the Lower Zambezi. Drifting slowly down river, observing elephants coming into drink as the sun goes down is one of the definitive African experiences.
With night drives offered in all of the major national parks, Zambia is arguably the best destination in Africa to observe nocturnal wildlife. The South Luangwa in particular is known for outstanding leopard sightings, and there is a tangible excitement to watching how wildlife behaves after dark.
By any judgement Victoria Falls is an awesome force of nature. During the wet season up to 550 million litres of water cascades over the lip of the Falls each minute, offering an intensely photogenic experience. The spectacle that so bewitched David Livingstone is still equally impressive today.
Walking offers an opportunity to appreciate the birdlife, track animals footprints and learn about the smaller creatures such as a mother and baby warthogs. It makes an excellent contrast to a game drive and allows visitors to understand more about the ecosystems of the South Luangwa.

Sausage Tree is a superb camp, with ultra-luxurious rooms often surrounded by wildlife, particularly elephant and hippo. It enjoys a superb location right in the middle of the national park, and the guiding and service are both top class.
Sausage Tree Camp has a lovely location overlooking the grassy islands of the Zambezi's floodplains and out to the rugged escarpment. There are often buffalo grazing on the islands and crocodiles in the sandy channels. The camp is situated on a high sandy bank in which bee-eaters often nest. It's a luxurious camp in a fabulously wild location.
Sausage Tree has five stylish bedouin-style signature tents, two larger honeymoon suites and also a new Kigelia House, which is ideal for families or small groups, set under mahogany and sausage trees. Open on one side (with sliding doors for the evenings), the tents have polished stone floors, large beds with wonderfully comfy mattresses and open air bathrooms. To relax in the afternoon, there are private terraces where you can sit on your comfy sofa with a book and binoculars, watching the game move slowly past. Each guest room has it's own murchinda (personal butler), 24 hour power for the lights, plus overheads fans and powerpoints for charging camera batteries. In the main lodge there is an airy living room with lots of books and a dining room where exquisite meals are prepared, as well as a lovely deck and pool to relax by in the hot afternoons.
Activities at Sausage Tree are incredibly varied. You can enjoy boat trips on the river, game drives, guided walks and fishing. A particular highlight is a morning canoe trip down the channel adjacent to the camp, dodging hippo as you go. The camp is situated in the heart of the park and is surrounded by some particularly pretty game loops.
With its floodplains, grasslands and tall forests the Lower Zambezi Valley supports fantastic game densities. Activities in the park include walking safaris, game drives, boating and fishing.
